OSCOO ON900A NVMe SSD — Drop-In Storage Upgrade for 2013–2017 MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini & Mac Pro

The ON900A brings modern NVMe speed — up to 3,500 MB/s reads — to older Macs, using Apple's proprietary 12+16 pin connector. No adapter, no modification: it installs as a direct replacement for the original Apple SSD, in capacities up to 2TB that Apple never offered for most of these machines.

Key specifications:

  • Connector: Apple proprietary 12+16 pin — direct replacement for the original Apple SSD, no adapter required
  • Interface: NVMe PCIe Gen3×4
  • Read speed up to 3,500 MB/s, write speed up to 3,000 MB/s
  • Capacities: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB
  • 3D TLC NAND flash
  • Endurance: 162 TBW (256GB) / 325 TBW (512GB) / 650 TBW (1TB) / 1,300 TBW (2TB); TRIM, NCQ, and S.M.A.R.T. supported under macOS
  • Dimensions 89 × 24 × 2.3 mm, weight 6.09 g
  • Operating temperature 0–70°C, storage temperature −40–85°C
  • Requires macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later
  • 3-year warranty

Compatible models:

  • MacBook Air 11" (A1465, Mid 2013 – Early 2015)
  • MacBook Air 13" (A1466, Mid 2013 – 2017)
  • MacBook Pro Retina 13" (A1502, Late 2013 – Early 2015)
  • MacBook Pro Retina 15" (A1398, Late 2013 – Mid 2015)
  • iMac 21.5" (A1418, Late 2013 – 2017)
  • iMac 27" (A1419, Late 2013 – 2017)
  • Mac mini (A1347, Late 2014)
  • Mac Pro (A1481, Late 2013)

The ON900A is not compatible with 2016 and later MacBook Pro models with soldered storage, or with any PC or non-Apple system.

Who it's for: Anyone keeping a 2013–2017 Mac alive — replacing a failing original SSD, jumping from 128GB or 256GB to real working capacity, or squeezing years more use out of a machine that's otherwise still perfectly good.

FAQ:

  • How do I know if my Mac is compatible? Check the model number (A1465, A1466, A1502, A1398, A1418, A1419, A1347, or A1481) printed on the bottom case of your MacBook or the back of your iMac, or open → About This Mac and match the model and year against the list above.
  • Do I need to do anything before installing? Yes — update to macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later before swapping the drive. Earlier macOS versions don't include the NVMe driver and won't recognize the ON900A. Back up with Time Machine so you can restore to the new drive.
  • Why is my measured speed lower than 3,500 MB/s? On 2013–2014 models, the Mac's own PCIe 2.0 interface is the bottleneck, so real-world speeds will be below the drive's rated maximum — still a substantial upgrade over the original Apple SSD. 2015 and later models with PCIe 3.0 get closer to full speed.
  • Will macOS features like TRIM and hibernation work? Yes — the ON900A supports TRIM, NCQ, and S.M.A.R.T. under macOS and works with standard macOS power management.

Frequently Asked Questions

This resource is crafted to help you find information easily and efficiently.

Can the ON900A be installed in my Mac?

The ON900A is specifically designed for Mac systems from 2013-2017, including MacBook Air (A1465, A1466), MacBook Pro Retina (A1502, A1398), Mac Mini (A1347), iMac (A1418, A1419), and Mac Pro (A1481). You must have macOS High Sierra 10.13 or later installed. Check your Mac model and year against the compatibility chart before purchase, as newer Macs may use different connectors.

Will my Mac's performance improve significantly after upgrading?

Absolutely. If your Mac is using a traditional hard drive or older SSD, the ON900A's 3,500MB/s read speeds will dramatically improve boot times, application launches, and file operations. You'll notice faster startup, quicker photo/video editing, and more responsive multitasking. The PCIe Gen3.0×4 interface maximizes your Mac's existing performance potential.

Will the ON900A overheat in my MacBook?

The ON900A is engineered for Mac's thermal constraints with efficient 3D TLC NAND Flash technology that generates minimal heat. The M.2 2280 form factor fits perfectly within Mac's existing thermal design. However, ensure proper ventilation during intensive tasks like video rendering or large file transfers to maintain optimal performance.

Can I migrate my existing macOS installation to the ON900A?

Yes, you can clone your existing drive to the ON900A using Time Machine backup restoration or disk cloning tools like Carbon Copy Cloner. The process preserves your applications, settings, and files. However, we recommend a clean macOS installation for optimal performance, then restore your data from Time Machine backup.

What is the actual usable capacity of the ON900A?

256GB version: approximately 238GB usable
512GB version: approximately 476GB usable
1TB version: approximately 931GB usable
2TB version: approximately 1.86TB usable
(System formatting and binary conversion consume some space, which is industry standard)

How reliable is the ON900A for professional Mac workflows?

The ON900A features enterprise-grade 3D TLC NAND Flash with TRIM, NCQ and S.M.A.R.T support for professional reliability. It's ideal for Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, and other demanding Mac applications. The consistent performance ensures smooth 4K video editing and large project file handling.

Why doesn't my Mac reach the advertised 3,500MB/s speed?

Achieving maximum speed requires:
①Compatible Mac model with PCIe Gen3.0×4 support
②macOS High Sierra 10.13 or later
③Large sequential file transfers (small files are affected by system overhead)
④Proper installation in the primary M.2 slot
Older Mac models or different PCIe configurations may limit speeds. These are system limitations, not product defects. The included installation tools help ensure proper setup.
